Fixed Braces
Have you thought about getting braces? If so then you are well on your way to getting that beautifully straight smile that you’ve been dreaming of. Combining state of the art technologies and techniques, todays fixed braces are made of small metal or ceramic brackets, with a wire connecting them which results in a discrete powerful solution that delivers fantastic results.

Ceramic Braces
Ceramic Braces or White Braces are both the same shape and size as their metal counterparts. They use clear or tooth-coloured brackets that will ensure they are all but invisible against the natural tooth colour. The main difference between traditional metal and ceramic braces is related to the type of brackets that are used.
What are Fixed Metal Braces?
Often referred to as “train track” braces, fixed braces are attached by your orthodontist to each of the teeth being aligned. A small metal or tooth-coloured ceramic bracket is attached to each of the teeth, and a wire is connected through the brackets.
Gentle and steady pressure will be applied to each tooth, gradually moving it into the desired position.
The brackets are adhered to the teeth, which means that the braces can only be removed by your orthodontist when the treatment has concluded.
Fixed braces can be both traditionally affixed to the front of the teeth. Another more discreet option for patients to consider is lingual braces.

Is Wearing Braces uncomfortable?
Braces today are much more comfortable than they were in years gone by. They also produce results in much less time.
Getting fitted for braces, what to expect?
Expect your appointment to last between 1 and 2 hours. Your teeth will first be cleaned. An adhesive gel will be placed on each of your teeth, in order to attach the brackets.
Once the brackets are in place, wires will then be threaded through the brackets. Elastic bands will be placed on each bracket to keep the wire in place.

Be sure to speak with your orthodontist if you have any concerns or questions about the care of your braces. This appointment is also the best chance for you to pick up orthodontic wax and the best in cleaning supplies so that cleaning your teeth is as comfortable as possible.

Why Get Braces?
Fixed braces can treat both functional issues and cosmetic concerns with your teeth and jaw. They can treat crooked and crowded teeth, along with helping to treat gaps between teeth, overbites and under bites.
Orthodontic treatments can also be an option to help to treat incorrect jaw positioning and disorders of the jaw joints.
To determine which orthodontic solution will work best to help you meet your goals, it’s best to schedule a consultation with our specialist. Every patient is different and thus each treatment plan needs to be unique, tailor made for you.
Tips for living a life with braces!
You will be able to eat almost immediately after being fitted for your braces but there are some things to keep in mind. The adhesive used to affix the brackets to your teeth won’t fully set for a full day. It’s suggested that you avoid foods that could potentially damage the brackets, and stick to softer foods.
Generally speaking, harder and crunchy foods, along with chewy and sticky foods should be avoided when you are living with fixed braces. These foods could damage your braces.
It can be much harder to properly clean your teeth when you’ve got braces on, so it’s best to avoid sugary foods that could potentially lead to advanced tooth decay. Be sure to use an interdental toothbrush and quality mouth rinse after each meal so that you can do your best to protect your teeth from cavities and other decay.
