Dentures

There are several tooth replacement solutions that can help to restore smiles, restore a bite and of course restore quality of life. Dentures remain one of the oldest and most popular solutions for patients from all walks of life.

Advances

Denture related technology has seen some dramatic advances over the past several years. Today’s dentures offer a natural and comfortable look and fit. They offer a flesh-toned base with natural-looking porcelain teeth that allow for talking, laughing and eating without worry.

What are Dentures?

Patients who have experienced tooth loss often have a decreased quality of life. Tooth loss can lead to concerns with self-image and confidence. The loss of several teeth can also have a negative impact on a patient’s ability to speak clearly and enjoy favourite meals.
Another concern is that the loss of one or more teeth can lead to jaw bone regression, which can lead to facial drooping and the signs of premature ageing.
Dentures offer a minimally invasive solution to restoring lost teeth. They are custom-made dental prosthetics that fit into your mouth and offer a comfortable solution to smile restoration. There are a number of types of dentures, thus there is a solution that works well for each patient’s needs. Full dentures and partial dentures are the main two types of dentures.

What are my Options?

The type of dentures that will best meet your needs will be based upon a number of individual oral health factors. Consulting with your dentist here at Forster Court will help to ensure that you get the best dentures for you.

What types of dentures are available?

There are two types of denture offered; complete and partial dentures. The type of dentures that each patient will need will be based upon the number of teeth that need to be replaced, and based on oral health.
Further options in dentures include permanent dentures and removable dentures.

Partial or Full Denture?

Both partial and full dentures feature a flesh-toned base and beautifully natural-looking porcelain teeth. The colour of the porcelain teeth on partials can be matched to your remaining natural teeth so that you end up with a fully natural look. Partial dentures are similar to a dental bridge, with the key exception being that bridges are bonded in place by the dentist, they can only be removed by the dentist while dentures can be easily removed and cleaned.

Full dentures are used to replace the full set of teeth on your upper or lower jaw, or perhaps both upper and lower. They are an ideal solution to consider if you have no remaining healthy teeth. Any remaining teeth will need to be extracted prior to being fitted for the dentures.

Implant Supported Denture

Implant supported dentures are a good compromise for those looking for a more permanent smile restoration solution. Full implants are a good option but not always the right budget-friendly option for all patients. Combining strategically placed implants and dentures allows patients to get the benefits of both. Combining dentures and implants is a good compromise for patients who prefer dentures that are fixed in place, versus removable dentures. Discussing your smile goals with your dentist can help lead you to the right decision for your smile restoration needs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Dentures Explained

01. Implants or Denture?
One of the most appealing aspects to dentures is that they can prove to be a more cost-effective solution for patients who are missing a significant number of teeth. Dental Implants are a solid permanent tooth replacement option, but this can be a costlier consideration for patients with many missing teeth. Implants is a far superior solution, but they cost a lot more.
02. What are the advantages of wearing a denture?
Dentures, both fixed and removable, can restore a patient’s ability to enjoy a good meal and speak clearly without impediment. These simple essentials can help to restore confidence and self-esteem for those who have, for too long, avoided laughing and smiling.
03. How to take care of dentures
Dentures can last for many years when taken care of. Taking care of dentures is not any different from taking care of natural teeth. They need to be brushed and cleaned, just as you would care for your natural teeth.
