Traditional Braces VS Invisalign

The aligner trays are made from a clear flexible material. They can be removed between meals and to be cleaned. Traditional braces, which are fixed to the teeth, can only be removed by the orthodontist. Patients with traditional braces will often need to alter their diets and avoid some outdoor and sporting activities that could otherwise be hazardous to those with braces. Once in place, Invisalign braces are virtually invisible. This discreet solution is perhaps one of the best benefits that patients enjoy.

What is the Invisalign System?

The Invisalign system of clear retainers is an advanced orthodontic solution that can be used to create beautifully healthy smiles up to twice as fast as what would typically be seen with metal braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear retainers, each worn for a set period of time.

Each of the clear retainers, or aligner trays, work by applying gradual but steady pressure to the teeth that need to be moved. Teeth will start to shift as a result of this steady pressure, and will soon move into the position they need to be in.

The adjustments made by each of the clear flexible aligners are very small, but with these steady small changes can be seen in the positioning of the teeth in a relatively short period of time.

What are the Benefits?

There are a number of benefits to Invisalign braces. Perhaps the best benefit of this orthodontic solution is that it allows adults to discreetly straighten teeth, without much of an overall impact to their lifestyle.

What are the steps for getting the Invisalign system?

At your first consultation you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your treatment goals. Your dentist will take a 3D scan of your teeth as they are today. From this scan a digital simulation can be created in order to present to you an idea of what your new smile could look like after treatment with the Invisalign system.

If you are satisfied with what your results could be, your treatment plan will be created. Your scans will be sent off to the laboratory so that your set of aligner trays can be made. This process typically takes up to two weeks.

Once the trays have been delivered, you will be able to start using the system. Each aligner tray is worn for a predetermined amount of time. At this point you’ll simply move onto the next tray in the series.

Orthodontic issues treated

Some of the orthodontic concerns that Invisalign clear retainers can treat include gaps between teeth and the pursuit of generally straighter teeth. Some orthodontic solutions treat just the cosmetic smile, and others help to address functional issues.
