Gentle Treatment

There are many reasons that your dentist here at Forster Court may recommend that you get a tooth, or multiple teeth, removed. If the tooth extraction is necessary, we offer a gentle treatment procedure and can reassure you that your procedure will be a pain-free and stress-free experience.

What is a Dental Extraction ?

Extraction of a tooth is the complete removal of the tooth from the mouth. The damaged tooth structure above the gum line is removed, along with the root structure hidden below the gum line.
A tooth that has been surgically removed cannot be reinserted into the gum. There are, however, situations where a tooth that has been knocked free of the gum may be successfully implanted.

Is Tooth Extraction necessary?

Without the removal of an unhealthy tooth patients could find that they suffer from additional pain, infection and the decay of other previously healthy teeth and will put themselves under risk of more serious complications in their general health.

What are some reasons extractions are needed?

There are several reasons why you may need to have your tooth removed.
A very common reason involves a tooth that is too badly damaged from decay or trauma to be repaired. Other reasons include periodontal disease/gum disease, overcrowding and orthodontic needs and wisdom tooth removal.

What to expect during a routine extraction?

Patients who fear the extraction process should be assured that there will no pain felt during the procedure. We place a high premium on patient comfort.
You will be given local anaesthetic to numb the area completely. The method used for extraction will depend upon the size of the tooth and its root system. Some teeth can be removed simply and some teeth can require a surgical extraction.
If the tooth is broken or has curved roots, then your dentist may need to break up the tooth and remove it piece by piece. This is quite common and will not cause you any additional discomfort.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molar teeth that appear in the back of the mouth, usually when a patient is in their teens or twenties. Most of the time these teeth do not cause any problems. However, if the wisdom teeth become impacted, decayed or infected they may need to be removed to avoid recurrent infections or problems to surrounding teeth.
